More swimming on Tuesday

After the Sunday swim, mommy and daddy have come to a conclusion that swimming is a good way to dissipate baby Sheri's excess energy. She has an extremely good appetite after swimming and she falls asleep more easily during bedtime. This is certainly a big relief for mommy as I do not have to rock her to sleep for a long time. Recently, Sheri seems to have some difiiculties falling asleep even though she looks pretty exhausted at night. It would definitely be a bonus for us if swimming can make her sleep better at night. Yesterday, daddy made an effort to come home earlier so that he could bring baby Sheri to the pool. Before he left for work yesterday, he told me that he would come home earlier to bring his daughter to the pool. He could not believe that he is saying this. Well, I guess our dear daddy still needs time to get accustomed to all these fatherly duties.

Evening Swim

Hi, I'm waiting to go for my evening swim.

The weather was pretty sunny on Sunday. So, mommy and daddy decided to bring baby Sheri to the pool in the evening.

Baby Sheri starts kicking when she is in the water. Well, I guess it is a natural response for babies.

Help! Help!

After a good workout at the pool, baby Sheri had a good appetite for dinner. She finished 3 additional scoops of rice cereals on top of her usual portion for dinner. More importantly, she had an early night and she slept through the night. Hee! Hee! I think we should bring her out for a swim more often so that mommy can have an early night. Too bad, summer is ending and the pool will be closed soon.

Barbeque at Uncle Lin Shu's place

Last Saturday, we went to Uncle's Lin Shu for barbeque. This is probably the last summer barbeque that we can have before summer officially ends next week. Time flies. The last time mommy and Sheri met Uncle Lin Shu and Auntie Kuang Yi was when baby Sheri was about 2 months. Now, Sheri is 8 months old.

Boston Trip-Harvard Univeristy

Before we left Boston, we made a trip to Harvard University. Daddy and mommy came here 4 years ago when daddy was studying in Princeton University. Now, we are back again with our daughter, Sheri. One of the places of interest in Harvard University is the statue of John Harvard, after whom Harvard is named. Touching John Harvard's left foot has become a tourist attraction over the years and many people will take turns taking a pictures of themselves touching his left foot. As a result, his left foot is more tarnished than the other. Of course, crazy mommy and daddy will not give it a miss.

Boston Garden and meeting with mommy's friend

While daddy was busy attending the conference in Boston, mommy had to keep herself and baby Sheri entertained. Fortunately, baby Sheri loves to play and sleep on the bed in the hotel room.
She could sleep till ten o'clock in the morning everyday. Baby Sheri is on very good terms with the chambermaid, so Mommy had a pact agreement with her that she would only come in when baby Sheri has woken up.

Mommy brought baby Sheri to the Boston Garden, which is just right across the street from our hotel.

On Tuesday evening, mommy had a chance to meet up with my Singaporean friend, Esther. We had dinner at Finale, which according to Esther, is well-known in Boston for their desserts. Baby Sheri was very excited in the restaurant. The people who were sitting beside us, could not help but notice her presence and because of that, mommy felt quite embarassed at times.

It was time to say bye-bye to Auntie Esther. One last shot at the hotel lobby before we parted.

Boston trip

This week, daddy had to attend a conference in Boston for a week. Unlike the previous time, mommy and baby Sheri decided to tag along this time. It's the first time that baby Sheri is going on a long trip, so we had to make sure that we brought sufficient food, diapers, clothes and not to forget her favourite toys so that she can keep herself entertained in the hotel room. We had to set off early in the morning on Saturday morning. Mommy told Sheri about the trip the night before. Somehow, she seemed to be aware of it and she woke up almost the same time as daddy and mommy. Fortunately, we loaded our stuff into the car the night before, so we did not take long to move out of the house. The drive is estimated to be about five and half hours, but we expected some delay as we had to drive through the New York city. Surprisingly, the traffic was pretty smooth from New York to Connecticut, but there was a huge traffic jam once we entered Massachusetts. We took a break at one rest stop before we drove into downtown Boston. By the time we checked in the hotel, it was already 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

After such a long and exhausting trip, it feels really good to laze around before meeting daddy's friends for dinner. It's pretty convenient to get around Boston using the T-subway. The subway system is easy to understand, unlike the one in the New York City that always keeps mommy baffled. However, unfortunately, not all the subway stations are accessible to strollers. The Arlington station that is in close proximity to our hotel is underground and the only way to access the subway is through the stairs. So, we had no choice but to do a bit of workout before dinner. Daddy had to fold up the stroller and carry it down the stairs while mommy had to carry baby Sheri who now weighs like a ton now. Fortunately, the people on the subway were considerate to give up their seats when they saw us lugging a baby and a stroller. By the time when we met up daddy's friends at Harvard Square for dinner, we were famished. As usual, baby Sheri is very amiable to people whom she met only for the first time.

After a hearty meal and a good chat with daddy's good friends, we returned to the hotel. Baby was completely exhausted and she slept like a pig.

Daddy's birthday

Today is daddy's birthday. Since it is a weekday, we decided to celebrate it at home. Mommy specially baked for daddy a surprise birthday cake, a cheesecake with blueberries and strawberries toppings.

As usual, baby Sheri was very curious about the candle and wanted to feel it with her hands. So, daddy had a hard time keeping her hands away from the flame while mommy was taking pictures.
After the cake-cutting ceremony, daddy and mommy sat down for dinner while baby Sheri enjoyed watching her favourite VCD. We had grilled tilapia and tuna salad with crabmeat. All these were prepared by our inhouse chef. Hopefully, it did not taste too bad.

Crawling?

Today, mommy noticed that baby Sheri is starting to crawl, but.....................
You know what I mean when you watch the video.

Poolside Picnic

Today, we had a poolside picnic at the clubhouse. This is an annual event hosted by our apartment management for all the residents. The aim is to have fun and enjoy the pool in the beautiful summer weather. Time flies. Last year, mommy and daddy attended the picnic too, but Sheri was still in mommy's tummy. This year, we are glad to bring the little girl with us.

As usual, the management did an excellent job. Food was catered for all the residents and there was live music from a band.
At first, mommy was worried that baby Sheri might feel uncomfortable at the sight of so many strangers. We were glad that she did not exhibit any 'stranger anxiety' syndrome and she was very graceful even when she was carried by people whom she met the first time.

It's quite entertaining to see how kids interact with one another.

Warming up for baby Sheri before the real fun begins.

Do I look like a serious swimmer?

This is my new friend, Grace, whom I just met in the pool. She is one month older than me.

It's time to go home. Bye! Bye!

My worst fear came true

Sheri loves to snuggle up with us on our bed, so she will usually sleep with mommy on the bed in the day time. Usually, she does not move around too much on the bed in the daytime, even though she does roll around in her crib when she sleeps at night. Perhaps, because of this, mommy was too complacent and thought that it was safe to leave her on the bed in the daytime. Somehow, it did not occur to mommy that baby Sheri is growing up everyday and she is getting more agile in her movements as each day passes. This morning, I was shocked to find her legs dangling out of the bed when I went to the bedroom to pick her up from her morning nap. I told daddy about it when he came back for lunch and still reminded ourselves that we must keep a watchful eye on her as she may just roll off from the bed since she is more mobile nowadays. Guess what? My worst fear came true later in the evening. As usual, she fell soundly asleep in mommy's arm in the evening before dinner time, so mommy left her to sleep on the bed while she started preparing apple puree for her in the kitchen. Somehow, what happened in the morning seemed to slip mommy's mind at that moment. A few minutes later, I heard baby Sheri's cries. By the time I ran to the bedroom, it was too late. She had fallen down from the bed and was crying franctically on the floor. I quickly picked her up from the floor and tried to soothe her while at the same time, checking for any bruises on her head. Poor baby Sheri! Even though our floor is carpeted, it must have been quite a bad fall for her since our bed is much higher than the normal bed. It's all mommy's fault. I shouldn't have left her sleeping alone on the bed. I feel so remorseful after that. I wish that I could have stayed with her when she was taking her afternoon nap on our bed. Out of panic, I quickly called daddy in his office and he came home immediately to check on baby Sheri. We agreed that we should observe her carefully to check for any symptoms that may arise as a result of the fall. So far, she is behaving normally and her appetite is as good as ever. From now onwards, I guess I have to be more vigilant and should not assume that she will always behave the same way as the day before. After all, she is a growing baby and is increasing her mobility everyday.

National Day 2007

Tomorrow is Singapore's 42nd National Day. It is baby Sheri's first National Day. However, she will not be able to celebrate it in Singapore. Nevertheless, the foo family will don in red and white, which are the two colours of our State flag, to commemorate this important occasion. Here's our greetings from the United States.

New Hat

How do I look in my new hat?

Yesterday, we bought a hat for Sheri during our weekend shopping. Her head seems to be pretty big for her age as there seems to be no room for expansion when we put on her hats that are meant for babies. So, we have no choice but to buy her a hat that is meant for toddlers. Anyway, we have gotten used to the fact that we have a big baby. Whenever we bring her out, many people commented that she looks bigger than her age. This reminded me of the time when I had her in the late stage of my pregnancy. Many people said that I looked as if I was about to pop at any time even though I was 2 months away from my due date. One lady even went up to me to touch my big tummy and said, " Wow, what a big baby!" Having a birth weight of 8 pounds and 7 oz, I would say that mommy has given Sheri a good headstart. It is entirely up to her to keep up to her birth weight. Well, so far, she is doing pretty well.

Picking our own Peaches

Summer is a great time for fruit harvest. This morning, we went to a fruit farm to pick our own peaches. It was about a half an hour 's drive from our place. Having grown up in a city, this was the first time that daddy and mommy experienced picking our own fruits.

This was the place where we waited for the truck to bring us to the orchard.

While waiting for the driver, we took a picture with the scarecrow.

Off we go!

It is certainly not easy to carry a baby and pick fruits at the same time.

Daddy! I want to pick some peaches too!

This was our fruit harvest so far.

After we came back from the orchard, we visited the farm market. Their summer specialties include cantaloupe, seedless watermelon, sweet corn, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers and zucchini. Besides the peaches that we picked, Mommy also bought some tomatoes and cucumbers from the farm market.

I guess it is certainly more satisfying to eat the fruits that we pick on our own. Hopefully, we will be back to pick the raspberries, apples and pumpkins which will be harvested in September. Before we left, we took some pictures of Sheri with the faceboards that were outside the farm.
