Updates on baby Sheri's development

I'm so exhausted. Let me take a good nap first.

Mommy is trying to set baby Sheri on a routine during weekdays when there is less disruptions. I hope to get her to take a morning and afternoon nap every day. I heard from some folks that babies need more sleep to grow quickly and sleeping also helps boost their immune system. I wonder if it true.

Sheri is making good progress in eating solid food.I have increased her intake of cereals and there is less spillage on the bib now during feeding time. She has learnt how to eat oatmeal cereals, sweet potatoes, apple, pear and peas. She seems to like all of them so far. I hope she will continue to be like this and mommy will be able to introduce her to a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, which will make feeding time more interesting.

Nowadays, she is more agile in her movements. She can reach for her toes now.

She can also turn to her side to pick up a toy and turn back again. When she is put on her tummy on a sofa which is slightly inclined, she can roll over from her tummy to the back. However, she still cannot roll over from her tummy on a flat ground. All she does is to keep moving her hands and legs, acting as if she is trying to crawl. Well, I suppose the slight inclination of the sofa does offer some assistance to her rolling over. It is pretty amazing to see how babies develop all these psychomotor skills. They are weak and defenceless when they are just born, but their switches are gradually being turned on every now and then. They seem to be refining their capabilities every day. I cannot deny that it is very satisfying to see baby Sheri growing every day under our care, but these things should not be taken for granted. We thank God for giving Sheri to us and it is God's grace that she is growing happily and healthily every day.

Learning to sit

Baby Sheri 's neck muscle is getting stronger now, so I think it's time for her to learn how to sit on the baby seat that Auntie Oranna and Yinshan bought. Today, she had her first try on the baby seat without any support at the neck. She seemed to be pretty amused by it.

Daddy loves baby Sheri so much that he ensures that she gets her daily dosage of morning exercises.

Uncle Garret's wedding

We went to attend Uncle Garret's wedding today. The wedding was held in Roberson Mansion in Binghampton, which is in upstate New York. We had to drive for about two and half hours to get there. Nowadays, it's difficult to get out of the house on time with a baby. We had to ensure that we have all the baby's stuff packed and loaded in the car before we set off since it is quite a bit of a distance from our home. We were a bit late when we got out of the house. The drive there was pretty scenic, but baby Sheri was asleep most of the time.

It was a pity that we missed the wedding ceremony by the time we arrived. Nevertheless, we had a great time at the cocktail reception and the buffet dinner that followed after that. We give them our deepest blessing and wish them everlasting happiness as they begin their life journey together.

Memorial Weekend

The much awaited memorial weekend is finally here. Oranna and baby Sheri's godmother came to visit us today. It is the first time that godmother Sheri see baby Sheri since she was born. We really appreciate her for coming all the way from Atlanta to visit baby Sheri. We had a great time catching up on each other as it has been three years since daddy last met Sheri.

Oranna bought a V-tech story book for baby Sheri and godmother Sheri bought a cutlery set for baby Sheri.

Thank you, Auntie Oranna and godmother Sheri. Baby Sheri appreciates the gifts that you bought.

Happy Sheri

Sheri is a capricious baby. Her mood can be quite unpredictable at times. What seems to amuse her at one time may be of no interest to her at another time. Anyway, mommy managed to capture a snapshot of her laughing when I tried to clean her mouth this morning.

Powerful kicks

As days pass by, baby Sheri's thighs are getting more and more muscular. This can be attributed to the fact that she likes to kick her legs. Sometimes, you can see her legs raising up in the air even before you reach her crib. Her kicks are pretty powerful. She is capable of kicking the toys down at the floor gym. Today, she kicked one of the toys down again and mommy has to put it back for her. She also likes to kick at mommy and daddy relentlessly when we sit beside her even when we pretend to be cringing in pain. What a violent baby!

Baby Sheri is making good progress in eating solid food. Today, she managed to finish one teaspoon of oatmeal cereals during lunch even though some of it ended up on the bib. I guess mommy must keep trying to feed her with solid food every day. Perserverance will pay off one day.

Last weekend

Finally, we had our belated Mother's day celebration on Saturday. Mommy suddenly had a craving for Italian food, so Daddy brought us to an Italian restaurant for lunch. The food was excellent and the ambience was great. It was followed by a trip to Babies 'R' Us. Now, our attention is mainly focused on our little darling, so we have inevitably become regular patrons of Babies 'R' Us.
On Sunday, Mommy was elated to see her good friend, Oranna, from Singapore. She is here for one month of job training and it happened that her workplace is just a one hour's drive from our place. Auntie Oranna couldn't wait to cuddle baby Sheri when she saw Sheri. She bought for baby Sheri a set of bodysuits and a beautiful white dress from Baby Gap. Thank you, Auntie Oranna!

Where is baby Sheri? Is she taking picture of us?

Eventful week

Even though daddy was not around for this week, mommy was fortunate to have the companionship of her friends. Auntie Jess came on Tuesday to take lunch with mommy. My Korean neighbour brought her daughter, Je-young, to have tea with mommy on Wednesday. Jess was here again on today and she brought her son, Han, with her this time. She also prepared a special Beijing noodle dish for mommy. Time passes quickly with all these activities and daddy will be back home tomorrow night. Three cheers for mommy for taking care of baby Sheri singlehandedly for the whole week.

This morning, when mommy went to the crib to pick baby Sheri up, she was playing with her blanket. She covered herself with the blanket the minute she saw me. When I told her that mommy was leaving because mommy could not see baby Sheri, she immediately pulled down the blanket. What a naughty girl!

Home alone with baby Sheri

I just came back from sending daddy to work. Today, we had to drag baby Sheri out of bed early this morning because mommy had to send daddy to work as daddy will be away for a conference this week. Fortunately, the drive back from daddy's workplace was not that bad with the morning traffic. Mommy tried talking to baby Sheri constantly in the car to assure her that she was not alone since I had to place her in the passenger seat according to the States law. Anyway, she was fast asleep by the time we reached home. This is the first time that mommy is home alone with baby Sheri. Hopefully, she will not be too nasty to mommy. Daddy promised to call us everyday to check on us. I think daddy will miss seeing baby Sheri for the week. Well, he can always see her pictures on the blog whenever he misses her.

Mother 's Day 2007

This year's mother's day has taken on additional significance because it is my first mother's day after being elevated to the status of motherhood 4 months ago. Sheri is obviously too young to appreciate the occasion, so daddy has to take on the task of celebrating for mommy. However, daddy was not feeling too well yesterday, so we decided to postpone the celebration to next week. Even though we were at home, daddy tried to cook for mommy so that mommy could take a well-deserving break on this special occasion. Of course, I did not forget my dearest mommy in Singapore. What could be more special than hearing the voice of your daughter who is ten thousand miles away from home on this special occasion. So, I called my mum and wished her a 'Happy Mother's day' on Saturay evening in the States, which was early in the morning on Sunday in Singapore.

Playing with teether rings

Recently, Baby Sheri has been sucking her fingers vigorously, so we bought her some teether rings, hoping that she can get some relief by biting on it. However, she doesn't seem to be too interested in biting it. Instead, she likes to play with it. Yesterday, she was so strong that she pulled out one of the rings. I doubt she knows how to put it back.

Turning to the side

Mommy recently noticed that baby Sheri is starting to turn to her side, but she is still not able to roll over when she is put on her tummy. However, this morning, mommy heard baby Sheri yelling when she was in the kitchen. Guess what? Baby Sheri was found facing down. It seemed that she had accidentally rolled from the front to her back but she had difficulties rolling back, so she was struggling for help. Mommy had to help baby Sheri turn over, but naughty Sheri did not seem to learn her lesson and she tried to do it again.

Summer outfit for Sheri

With the weather getting warmer nowadays, it's time to reorganize baby Sheri's wardrobe. I have to put away those warm clothing and take out those summer outfits for her. That's the hassle that you have to go through when you live in countries with four seasons. You have to reorganize the wardrobe everytime the season changes. Mommy cannot wait to put on T-shirts and shorts on little Sheri. That's how most babies are dressed in Singapore.

Baby Sheri is getting more dexterous with her fingers now. She likes to pull up her T-shirts. exposing her little belly. So, mommy can only put on those T-shirts that has a button at the bottom on her to keep them in place. Now, she can pick things up with her hands and grab them really tightly at times that mommy has difficulties removing them from her. Sometimes, mommy may put on socks for her to keep her feet warm, but she will pull it out and drop it elsewhere, sending Mommy looking for the missing socks. Well, I guess babies are playful by nature and I don't deny that she does provide constant entertainment for mommy and daddy the whole day.

Sunday

It has been pretty sunny recently, so we bought a pair of sunglasses for baby Sheri at Babies'R' Us yesterday. How does she look with her new image?

Does baby Sheri look like a supreme leader of some country? Make a guess.

Does she look like someone from the recent 'Apprentice' ?

We went to Lower Macungie Memorial Park to take an evening walk on last Sunday. This park is used to commemorate soldiers in this community who have served in the US army. We were pleasantly surprised to find a playground in the park, which was a rare sight because the people here usually have their own playground in their backyard. Mommy and Daddy were eager to play with the swing as it reminded us of the times we had in Singapore. Too bad! Baby Sheri is too young to join in the fun.

Mommy's birthday 2007

Last Friday was my birthday. How time flies. I found out I was pregnant with Sheri three days before my last birthday. Now, I can hold her in my arms to celebrate my birthday this year. We decided to postpone the celebration to Saturday since daddy does not need to work on weekend. The morning started with the cutting of the birthday cake. Daddy bought a fruit tar with strawberries, blueberries and blackberries toppings for Mommy as the birthday cake since Mommy is still trying to shed off the extra pounds from the pregnancy. After that, we went to a Vietnamese restaurant called "Little Saigon" to take our lunch. In the afternoon, we decided to go to Babies'R' Us since it is not too far away from the Vietnamese restaurant. On our way to Babies'R' Us, we chanced upon a park where we stopped to take some pictures. One good thing of living in the suburb is that there are lots of greenery. We are looking forward to the day that baby Sheri can walk on her own as there are lots of places for her to embrace the beauty of nature.
