Mid-Autumn Festival

Yesterday night, we celebrated mid-autumn festival. This is baby Sheri's first mid-autumn festival. It should be a time for family reunion back in Singapore. Ironically, we had to celebrate it in the States. Well, this occasion has taken additional significance, especially since we are so far away from home. Nevertheless, the moon still looked as round as it should be no matter where we are. Happy mid-autmn festival!

Korean Sisters

Last Sunday, we invited our Korean neighbour to our house for tea. They have two very sweet daughters Je-en and Je-young. Both of them love to play with baby Sheri. Mommy and daddy could safely leave baby Sheri in their hands while we enjoyed a nice aftertoon tea with their parents.

First front tooth.......at last!

Baby Sheri has finally broken her nil score in her mouth. Finally, her first front right tooth is out. Anxious mommy has been waiting for this for quite awhile. I'm always looking for any signs of new teeth in baby Sheri's mouth. Perhaps because, mommy is getting a bit tired of feeding Sheri with baby food. I'm waiting anxiously for the day that Sheri can eat the same food with us. How neat would that be!

Bananas! Bananas everywhere! Yummy! I love to eat bananas!

Apples picking with Auntie Tao and her friend

It's fall now. It's also time for the harvesting of apples. Picking fruits is always more fun with more people, so we invited Auntie Tao and her friend to go with us this time. Little Sheri loves to eat apples, so mommy makes apple sauce for her everyday. She eats an apple a day. Hopefully, the saying 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away' is true.
Let me see if the truck is here to bring us to the orchard.
Why did little Sheri look so unhappy?
There were two types of apples for us to pick that day. We were ferried to two different locations to pick the apples.
Let's load our harvest on the small cart.
After loading our harvest into the car, Mommy and daddy brought little Sheri to look at the animals on the farm. Old Macdonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O And on his farm he had a cow, E-I-E-I-O With a "moo-moo" here and a "moo-moo" there Here a "moo" there a "moo" ..........

Auntie's Tao visit

Auntie Tao and her friend came to visit us on Saturday. Tao was daddy's senior in Princeton. It has been 2 years since we met her, so it's really nice to catch up with old friend.

We had lunch together at our place. Mommy fried some vermicelli with shrimps and prepared bak kut teh soup for them. The bak kut teh soup was spicy, but fortunately, both Auntie Tao and her friend seemed to like it. Little Sheri was pretty well-behaved while daddy and mommy were having lunch with the guests. She just played with her toys quietly on her mat. After a while, she spotted a new toy on her playing mat, that was a leap frog toy that Auntie Tao bought for little Sheri. Little Sheri could not wait to lay her hands on the spinning wheel on the new toy.

After lunch, we gave Auntie Tao a surprise birthday since her birthday is coming soon.

Look! Auntie Tao was playing the face book with little Sheri.

3 new toys for Sheri

Last week, we bought 3 new toys for little Sheri. One of them is a V-tech move and crawl ball, which hopefully will encourage the little one to be on the move. Mommy finds the ball the most interesting as it is not only self-rolling, it can also make different animal sounds and teach shapes, numbers as well.

The other toy is an educational leap frog drum which can operate in four different modes. It can drum sounds out letters of the alphabet, numbers, musical notes, or a traditional drum sound for each tap.

The last one is a V-tech smart alphabet desk. This may be too sophisticated for little Sheri, but she seems to like it. It has 8 different settings, which enable the little one to learn alphabet, spelling, words, numbers, phonics and memory skills.

Removal of the mobile toys

Nowadays, baby Sheri has the strength to push herself up and sit up in her crib. To prevent her from pulling the toys down from the mobile, I guess it's time to remove the mobile toys from the crib. Time flies. It seems like yesterday that we were still preparing the crib for baby Sheri's arrival. Now, we have to remove it to prevent her from destroying the mobile. Well, it seems that Baby Sheri also cannot part with the mobile toys.

Play date for Sheri

Last Tuesday and Friday, mommy brought little Sheri to a play date at Auntie Gale's house. Auntie's Gale's daughter, Grace, is exactly one month older than Sheri. The 2 babies looked so serious when we placed them together.

I guess they do not seem to be able to play togather at this stage yet, but mommy just wants baby Sheri to get to know other kids and learn to interact with them. Little Sheri seemed to be pretty excited with the new toys. In the end, baby Sheri was so exhausted that she fell asleep on the way back home. So, it seems that having a play date might be a good way to tire baby Sheri out.

Jacuzzi for baby Sheri

Crazy mommy and daddy brought little Sheri to the pool everyday before the closure of the pool after Labour day. Little Sheri survived the intensive swimming lessons and even outlasted daddy who fell sick over the weekend. Three cheers for little Sheri!

All the swimming lessons were followed by a dip in the jacuzzi. Little Sheri seemed to enjoy the warm water and the water jets in the jacuzzi. What a lucky girl!

Bye Bye to the pool! That's the end of my summer swimming lessons.

Updates on Sheri's eating habits

Since baby Sheri is eight months old, mommy has started feeding her egg yolk in the morning. Now, little Sheri eats four meals a day. She will usually drink 5 ozs of milk in the morning when she wakes up at about 6.30 am in the morning. Her first tea-break starts at about 9.00 am and mommy will give her oatmeal cereals mixed with milk and some egg yolk. She will have her lunch at 12.oo pm and her typical lunch usually consists of rice cereals, veggie, apple sauce, strained meat which can be either chicken, pork or anchovies. She has her afternoon tea-break at about 3.30 pm and that's when mommy will make her favourite banana puree mixed with oatmeal cereals. Daddy will feed her dinner at about 6.30 pm when he comes back from work. Her dinner menu is usually quite similar to her lunch. Surprisingly, little Sheri does not like to drink milk before bedtime. This is quite peculiar as I thought all babies need to drink milk before going to bed. Anyway, I guess every babies has its own eating habits. As long as Sheri is eating well, I should not worry too much. Nothing is more heartening to a mother than to see your baby eating well and growing up every day.
Daddy took a picture of little Sheri reading while eating. We tested Sheri a couple of times to see if she knows the correct way of reading a book. Out of coincidence, she got it right a couple of times.

Dinner with Uncle Jerry and his wife

Last Sunday, Uncle Jerry and his wife invited us to a new Thai restaurant in Promenade Mall at Saucon Valley. Uncle Jerry used to be daddy's sister ex-boss in Singapore. Mommy has always wanted to visit the upscale shopping mall in Saucon Valley, so this trip gave mommy a perfect chance to do so. Surprisingly, there were not many people in the mall unlike in Singapore on a weekend. Well, I guess the reason could be due to the weather. Most people in Singapore prefer to spend their time in the mall because they want to enjoy the free air-conditioning in the mall. Here, there is no reason to do so. The weather is good. In fact, it can be quite chilly at night.

The ambience in the restaurant is good and the food is excellent although it took them quite awhile to serve us the dishes. Uncle Jerry chose this place specially because he knows that daddy and mommy loves to eat Thai food. You can even customize the degree of spicyness of your dish by telling them whether you want mild, medium, medium hot or very hot. Daddy's red curry tastes pretty hot even though he just wanted medium hot. This is pretty unusual as it is pretty hard to find very spicy dishes in States. Anyway, it was a wonderful evening with them and we look forward to seeing them again.

Auntie Sung Yeun's place

A picture of the Hudson's River that mommy took on our way to Sung Yeun's place.

Today, we went to visit daddy's friend who has recently moved to New York state from Chicargo. She is auntie Sung Yeun from Korea. It's about 2.5 hours drive from our place. The traffic was pretty smooth even though there was a slight congestion as we approached the Zippan bridge at New York city. Auntie Sung Yeun is very hospitable to daddy and mommy . She bought sushi, miso soup, melons and chocolate puff for us. Not only was the lunch sumptuous, we also had the chance to use Korean's chopsticks which is very different from our chopsticks. The korean's chopstick is made of metal, and is flat and long. It reminded me of the time I went to korea with my parents many years ago.

Auntie Sung Yeun gave baby Sheri a spoon to keep her entertained while daddy and mommy enjoyed the lunch.

A picture of daddy playing with baby Sheri after lunch.

Auntie Sung Yeun let baby Sheri play with a teddy bear, but she seemed to be more interested in the label than the bear itself. We also noticed in her daily life that she seems to have a peculiar liking for labels.

Before we left, we decided to take a walk around her apartment to enjoy the panoramic view of the surroundings since Auntie Sung Yeun's apartment is on a hill.

Baby Sheri was still awake when we started the walk, but she fell asleep after we finished our walk.
