6th month check-up

On Monday, we brought baby Sheri to Children's Healthcare Network for her 6th month check-up . She weighs 17 pounds and 1 oz (7.1 kg) now and that brings her to 75 percentile. As for her height, she is 28 inches long (71 cm) and we were pleasantly surprised that she is at the 95 percentile. What a long baby!

She also received 3 shots and 1 oral medication, and we were glad that she survived the vaccinations without any adverse effects. Well done, baby!

Allentown Rose Garden

On Sunday evening, we decided to take a walk at Allentown's old fashioned Rose Garden. The garden is very well-kept and it offers free admission to the public. With the magnificent display of colorful flowers and lagoons filled with water lilies, it is indeed an ideal location for wedding pictures.

Playing with baby Sheri

The next milestone that Sheri needs to achieve in the next month is probaby to sit up independently without any backrest. So, mommy is trying to get her to sit up and play nowadays. For a start, she needs to support her body by placing her hands on the ground. Sometimes, she may be too engrossed in playing that she will lean too much to one side and fall down like a Humpty Dumpty. Fortunately, the floor is carpeted and that helps cushion the impact of the fall.

Embedded below is a short video of mommy playing the rings with baby Sheri. The rings is baby Sheri's favourite toy. You can change the length of the rings by chaining them differently. She finds it pretty fascinating and I believe that it does help improve the dexterity of her fingers by playimg with it. I would certainly encourage all parents to get one for their child.

Father's day 2007

We celebrated father's day on Saturday. Finally, it was daddy's turn to pick the restaurant since it was his day. He wanted to eat some dim sum, so we went to our usual place for dim sum, that is, Far Eastern restaurant in Bethlehem. Daddy truly deserves credit for working hard to give mommy and baby Sheri a good life. Three cheers for daddy! I'm sure daddy is looking forward to the day that baby Sheri can celebrate father's day for him.

Sheri's babbling and attempt to sit up

In the past, baby Sheri could only gurgles and coos, but nowadays, she has started canonical babbling, making sentence-like strings of vowels and consonants. Sometimes, she can babble incessantly, as if she is trying to engage you in her conversation. How I wish I could comprehend her babbling. I guess she must be feeling frustrated when mommy does not seem to understand what she is trying to say.
Mommy is also trying to make her sit up independently now. However, she still has to put her hands between the legs to support herself. Sometimes, she likes to inch forward and 'scooch' across the floor as if she is trying to crawl.
Sheri has a multi-faceted personality. Sometimes, she can be so demure like an angel, while at other times, she can look like a rascal, making mischievious faces.

6th month checkup at OBGYN

Yesterday, mommy went for her 6th month checkup at Valley OBGYN. It was the first time that Dr Listwa saw baby Sheri since he helped deliver her 5 months ago. Of course, mommy and daddy could not miss taking a quick snapshot of baby Sheri with Dr Listwa.

New walker and high chair

Baby Sheri is at the stage where she needs to be on her feet. Obviously. Mommy has no energy to hold her for the whole day. So, we were thinking it might be a good idea to get her a walker. Last weekend, we bought a walker and a high chair for her.

Hi, this is my new high chair!

Where is my food?

Sheri's first experience at the pool

The pool in our apartment complex is finally open for the summer. Crazy mommy couldn't wait to bring baby Sheri to the pool just to let her have a feel of the water in the pool. Baby Sheri did not seem to be daunted by the cold water. In fact, she was very engrossed looking at kids who were playing at the pool, but she is too young to join in the fun. As for mommy and daddy, it's a good time for us to sit at the pool to enjoy the beautiful weather. What a great way to spend our Sunday afternoon!

Some random thoughts

The weather has been unusually pleasant with temperature hovering about 71 farenheit (19 oC). Having grown up in the tropics where we can only experience summer the whole year, I'm beginning to fall in love with the weather here.
I feel more refreshed and rejuvenated when the weather is so pleasant. What's more, I have the companionship of a loving husband and an adorable daughter who is growing cuter by the days. I guess I really cannot ask for anything more in life. Suddenly, I just feel so thankful to my husband who let me stay at home to spend time with baby Sheri. It is so satisfying to see her growing every day. Recently, we realise that she likes to snuggle up with us on our bed. So, we have to wait till she falls asleep before putting her back in her crib. I guess she feels a greater sense of security with mommy and daddy beside her.

Baby Sheri is now even playing with the rings using her legs.

Some fatherly duties

Summer is here. The weather is now getting warmer and more humid. This is nothing for people like daddy and mommy who have grown up in the tropics. However, baby Sheri is not very used to the warm weather, perhaps because she is a winter baby. She seems to perspire more easily than us. To make her feel comfortable, we try to give her a bath every evening to soothe her to sleep. Mommy has delegated the task of bathing baby Sheri to daddy after he comes back from work so that Sheri can spend some time with daddy. Anyway, daddy enjoys bathing and changing her diapers.

Baby Sheri loves to look at herself in the mirror while she is bathing.

Do I look sexy?

Daddy always has some innovative ways of handling baby Sheri. Sometimes, he will hold her like a parcel. At other times, he will make her fly like a 'superman' around the house. Even Mommy 's friends were amused by the way daddy carries baby Sheri.
Yesterday, daddy put baby Sheri in the baby seat and placed the seat on the table so that he could take care of her while working on his laptop. Baby Sheri seemed to be very curious in what daddy was doing.

Mommy's good friends

It's very coincidental that Yinshan is in Boston for a month. So, the three of us, Oranna, Yinshan and I were able to meet up in this foreign land. They came to our house for dinner on Saturday night and stayed overnight. Daddy, Mommy and baby Sheri were very happy to have them with us over for the weekend. Since Oranna's birthday is coming in June, we decided to give her a surprise birthday celebration before she returns to Singapore on this Friday.

As usual, coaxing baby Sheri to sleep is always a constant battle. By the time Mommy put her to sleep, it was already 11 o'clock. Finally, mommy could spend some time with her two good friends. It has been about ten years since the three of us spent the night together. Never did we expect that we could get together again in the States after so many years. Cheers to our friendship!

Sheri is playing tug-of-war with Auntie Yinshan in the morning.

Wow, what a nice dress from Auntie Yinshan!
